Apple’s HomePod With an iPad-Like Display Currently in Early Development and Could Launch in 2025 at Earliest

It was reported last week that Apple is working on a new version of the HomePod with a display on top. Apple’s beta updates have also hinted the device and the company could announce it as soon as this year. However, the HomePod with a display on top could not be as big of an update as users have wanted for a while. A new report sheds light on Apple’s forthcoming HomePod with an iPad-like display and when it could be made available to the general public.

Apple’s HomePod with iPad-Like Display will feature Apple TV-like capabilities with FaceTime

Apple discontinued the original HomePod and then reintroduced it with some minor tweaks. The device features the same design as the one before it, with controls on the top and an enhanced audio experience. However, the company has been rumored to offer a hybrid device between the HomePod and an iPad, which will allow it to better compete against the likes of Amazon Echo and Google’s Nest Hub lineup.

According to Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter, Apple is still working on a new version of the HomePod with a built-in iPad-like display. However, the device will not launch until 2025. The analyst mentions that the company has already started “early work” on the rumored HomePod with suppliers. He also mentions that the company has not made major strides at this point to declare if the launch will happen any time soon.

However, the industry analyst corroborated earlier reports, citing that the new version of the HomePod will feature Apple TV capabilities alongside the ability to make calls using FaceTime. Furthermore, the company is also exploring smart displays with mounts that can be attached to the walls. Apple could also launch a product similar to Google’s Pixel tablet that attaches to a speaker for charging purposes and transforms into a Nest Hub-like device.

The forthcoming HomePod with a display on top could be a transitionary product for Apple, launching between the current models and the future HomePod with an iPad-like display. As mentioned, it is too early to conclude when the company will see fit to launch the device, but since it is in its early developmental phase, the product could take a few years before seeing daylight.

Apple is working on a wide range of wearable devices as well, including a smart ring, smart glasses, and even AirPods with a built-in camera. Possibly, the company could launch all of the aforementioned products together as part of its accessories.
