Jakarta (ANTARA) – Aston Villa has officially signed Indonesian-born player Ian Maatsen from Chelsea for a transfer value of 35 million pounds (approximately 723 billion rupees).
“Aston Villa announce the arrival of Ian Maatsen from Chelsea,” the club nicknamed The Villains said on their official website on Saturday.
The 22-year-old defender was loaned to Borussia Dortmund last season and helped the Bundesliga club reach the Champions League final.
Maatsen himself will only arrive after the 2024 Champions Cup. He is currently defending the Dutch national team and is preparing to face the Romanian national team in the round of 16 of the 2024 Champions Cup on Tuesday (2/7).

Maatsen is the second player signed by Aston Villa in this transfer market after Lewis Dobbin, on loan from Everton.
Chelsea signed Maatsen in 2019 from PSV Eindhoven and he shone on loan at Charlton Athletic, Coventry City, Burnley and Dortmund.
Maatsen played an important role in helping Burnley achieve promotion to the English Premier League in the 2022/23 season by scoring 4 goals in 39 appearances. That season he was included in the best team in the Championship Division.
Maatsen started last season at Chelsea, but failed to break into the first team under manager Mauricio Pochettino, playing just 15 games in all competitions.
He was then loaned to Dortmund in January. While strengthening Dortmund, Maatsen appeared 23 times and scored three goals as Dortmund finished fifth in the Bundesliga final. However, Dortmund lost 2-0 in the Champions League final to Real Madrid.
