Barcelona moved up to second place after winning 2-0 over Real Sociedad

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Barcelona managed a convincing 2-0 win when they hosted Real Sociedad in their 35th match of the 2023/24 La Liga at the Estadio Olimpico Lluis Companys on Tuesday morning WIB.

Barcelona’s two winning goals in this match were scored by Lamine Yamal and Raphinha’s penalty.

Thanks to this result, Barcelona moved up to second place in the table and overtook Girona with a score of 76 points. Meanwhile, Sociedad is in seventh place with 54 points, as reported by the official website of the Spanish League.

Barcelona immediately started playing offensively from the start of the match, but many of their opportunities with Lewandowski, Yamal, Raphinha did not produce results.

Barça only managed to break the deadlock in the 40th minute thanks to Yamal’s action. The quick passing game ended with Ilkay Gundogan pushing the ball to Yamal who immediately fired a first-time kick at Alex Remiro’s goal. The first half ends with the home team leading 1-0.

Barcelona continued to dominate possession in the second half, but struggled to break through their opponents’ solid defence.

Meanwhile, Sociedad threatened several times with rapid counterattacks, one of which was Takefusa Kubo’s shot which was perfectly intercepted by goalkeeper Marc Andre-Ter Stegen.

Sociedad had a golden opportunity in the 67th minute. Brais Mendez had space to shoot in the penalty area after a mistake by Gundogan, but his shot went just wide to the right.

Substitute Ferran Torres immediately threatened the visitors a minute after coming onto the pitch, precisely in the 77th minute. Receiving Raphinha’s pass, his shot into the bottom right corner was blocked by Remiro.

Barcelona were awarded a penalty after the referee deemed Alvaro Odriozola to have committed a handball. The referee checked the VAR screen before pointing to the spot.

Raphinha stepped up as an enforcer and did his job well, he kicked the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal.

This goal also ended the match, Barcelona managed to win 2-0 over Real Sociedad.
