Deutsche Welle organizes a friendship program for global media

The German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle has created a friendship program for various media outlets from dozens of countries around the world in which different opportunities, challenges and the latest dynamics of the media industry are discussed.

“We want to share not only knowledge of the challenges, but also the opportunities that exist. We can also share journalistic experiences among professionals that we consider the best thing to overcome problems in this field,” said Deutsche editor Welle. -Chief Manuela Kasper-Claridge.

In her program opening speech in Bonn, Germany, on Sunday (16/6), Manuela explained that currently in the world there is still intimidation of journalists in the exercise of their duties.

Besides this, other problems are the wave of fake news and the use of artificial intelligence which Manuela considers a new challenge.

He said his institution has a fact-checking team and has trained all journalists to use the application to identify content suspected of being false.

“We must continue to defend press freedom because society needs extensive information to be able to make its own decisions,” Manuela added.

Meanwhile, Director of Public Diplomacy at the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Peter Ptassek, welcomed numerous attending participants and explained that the event was about creating a better future.

The event consisted of a series of global media forums organized by Deutsche Welle in the city of Bonna with the support of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the regional government of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Around 85 people, including journalists and media workers from 41 countries, took part in courses covering topics such as managing hate speech, fact-checking, improving the efficiency and design of intelligence content artificial intelligence, campaigns to monitor misinformation on social media, and tips for creating interesting articles. .

This event is the initial activity before Deutsche Welle holds the Global Media Forum on June 17-18, 2024.
