Ipswich manager McKenna extends his contract for four years

We are delighted that Kieran has confirmed his commitment to the future of the club

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has ended speculation over his future by signing a new four-year contract, the club announced on Thursday.

McKenna led the club to a second consecutive promotion last season as Ipswich returned to the top flight of English football.

This achievement has made him linked to several coaching positions at other major English clubs, such as Brighton, Chelsea and Manchester United.

“I am very proud to be able to sign a new contract with the club. “We have achieved tremendous success over the last two seasons and I am delighted to have the opportunity and responsibility to lead this fantastic club in its first season in the English top division in 22 years,” said McKenna as quoted on Ipswich’s official website.

“Preparation and planning for the challenge ahead has been ongoing since we won promotion at the beginning of May, with a lot of work still to be done before the start of the new season, which is a very exciting time for everyone in the club,” added the Northern Irishman.

The former Manchester United youth coach’s contract will now tie him until 2028.

Assistant manager Martyn Pert, first team coaches Charlie Turnbull and Lee Grant and head goalkeeping coach Rene Gilmartin also received contract extensions.

“We are delighted that Kieran has confirmed his commitment to the future of the club,” said Ipswich chief executive Mark Ashton.

“Success brings with it challenges and there has been some speculation in recent weeks, but Kieran and I have been in constant communication, often on multiple occasions in the same day, as we plan our first Premier League season in a generation,” he added.

Ipswich had previously been promoted from the English Third Division, then were promoted again to the top tier to become the final second-placed team in the Championship division.

They lost just six league games and finished the season with a total of 96 points. Ipswich also had the best goalscoring record in their division last season, racking up 92 goals.
