Mortal Kombat 1 Gets Crossplay and Peacemaker Next Week, Free Trial in early March

NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. Games announced that Mortal Kombat 1 will get a big update next week, adding crossplay functionality and a new DLC guest fighter, Peacemaker.

This is a direct adaptation of DC’s character seen in The Suicide Squad and the eponymous TV series Peacemaker, featuring the voice and likeness of John Cena. Peacemaker is equipped with gunslinging skills, signature helmet abilities, and his loyal bald eagle sidekick, Eagly. Of course, fans can also expect his trademark humor and peculiar dance moves.

Peacemaker will be available from February 28 to Kombat Pack owners, while everyone else must wait until March 6. His gameplay trailer also provides the first glimpse at Janet Cage, a DLC Kameo Fighter and alternate reality version of Johnny Cage who will join Mortal Kombat 1 in March. She’ll be available for standalone purchase, while Kombat Pack owners will have access to her right awyay.

NetherRealm Studios also revealed a free trial weekend for Mortal Kombat 1. It’ll start on Thursday, March 7 at 9 AM PST (Pacific Standard Time) and will end on Sunday, March 10 at 11:59 PM PST. This trial version of the game includes all online and local multiplayer modes, the first two chapters of the Story mode, Johnny Cage’s Mansion tutorial Mesa in Invasions mode, access to the base roster of playable characters, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Johnny Cage, Kenshi, Smoke, Rain, Li Mei, Tanya, Baraka, Geras, Reptile, Ashrah, General Shao, Sindel, Nitara, and Reiko, and access to all Kameo Fighters, including those unlocked through gameplay.

Do note that while an active PlayStation Plus subscription is only required to play multiplayer matches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S|X players without an active Game Pass subscription won’t even be able to download the game and play in single player.  During the free trial weekend, Mortal Kombat 1 will also be discounted by 40% for both the Standard and Premium Editions.

The game has sold three million units as of last month. You can read our review here.
