OLED iPad Pro Will be Significantly Thinner Than Current Models, But Overall Dimensions Will be Slightly Bigger

The iPad Pro will receive one of the biggest upgrades this year as Apple plans to bring OLED technology to its devices. The company is looking to launch its tablets by the end of March, amid various delays. It is now reported that the OLED iPad Pro redesign will be significantly thinner than the current models. The iPad Pro will house powerful internals to compete against Samsung’s new Galaxy S9 Ultra tablet.

Apple is planning to radically redesign the OLED iPad Pro as the devices are reported to be significantly thinner than current models

As mentioned, Apple is looking to make the forthcoming OLED iPad Pro significantly thinner, according to 9to5mac. The publication cited sources familiar with Apple’s plans for the high-end iPad, suggesting that the device could be more than 1mm thinner than the current models. If you are unfamiliar, the 12.9-inch iPad Pro features 6.4mm of thickness, and according to the latest estimations, the OLED iPad Pro could be 5mm thick.

The report also highlights the dimensions of the OLED iPad Pro and how it compares to the current iPad Pro models. The 11-inch OLED iPad Pro will be 5.1mm thick, while the bigger 13-inch model will be 5mm thick. Check out the dimensions below for more details.

  • 11-Inch OLED iPad Pro will feature dimensions of 249.7mm x 177.5mm x 5.1mm against the current 11-Inch iPad Pro’s 247.6mm x 178.5mm x 5.9mm
  • 13-Inch OLED iPad Pro will feature dimensions of 281.5mm x 215.5mm x 5.0mm against the current 12.9-inch iPad Pro’s 280.6mm x 214.9mm x 6.4mm

It appears that the forthcoming OLED iPad Pro models will grow slightly in terms of length and width, but the thickness will be reduced significantly. Apple is planning to redesign the iPad Pro models completely and the OLED display will potentially be the highlight of the update. However, the company is also working to add further improvements to the package. We have previously reported that MagSafe technology could finally be coming to the iPad Pro as Apple tests the technology for feasibility.

While these are speculations at this stage, it remains to be seen how the company implements the latest changes. Other than this, the device will be powered by the company’s new M3 chip based on TSMC’s 3nm architecture. What this means is that the upcoming iPad Pro models will feature faster performance and better battery life due to the lower power-hungry nature of the chip.

It was previously reported that Apple will launch the new iPad Pro models by the end of March. If the estimates have any heft, the OLED iPad Pro models are only a month away from launch. However, it remains to be seen how much the company is looking to charge for the devices. We have previously seen various price-related rumors, so nothing can be stated for sure at this stage. We will share more details on the device as soon as further information is available.
