Pulisic scored two goals, Milan won convincingly 5-1 against Cagliari

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Milan achieved a convincing 5-1 victory when they hosted Cagliari on the 36th matchday of the 2023/24 Serie A at San Siro on Sunday morning WIB.

Milan’s five goals were scored by Ismael Bennacer, Tijjani Reijnders, Rafael Leao and a pair of goals from Christian Pulisic. Meanwhile, Cagliari manages to reduce the position thanks to a goal from Nahitan Nandez.

These three points put Milan firmly in second place with 74 points. Meanwhile, this defeat has left Cagliari stuck in 15th place with 33 points, as reported by the Italian League’s official website.

The first dangerous opportunity of this match came in the 11th minute from a shot by Alessandro Florenzi, but the ball was saved by Simone Schuffet.

Milan only managed to open the scoring halfway through the first half or in the 35th minute. Taking advantage of a crazy shot born from the chaos in front of the Cagliari goal, Ismael Bennacer immediately grabbed the ball with a volley and slipped into the visitors’ goal. Milan leads 1-0.

This goal inspired Milan players to increase their lead. However, the 1-0 score lasted until halftime.

At half-time coach Stefano Pioli made three direct substitutions. Chukwueze, Giroud and Gabbia were replaced by Rafael Leao, Noah Okafor and Fikayo Tomori.

The three substitutes made Milan’s game more aggressive from the start of the second half.

As a result, they managed to increase their lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute. Starting from a counterattacking pattern, Rafael Leao provided a decisive pass to Pulisic who escaped the offside trap and beat the Cagliari goalkeeper before hitting the ball into the goal.
