Rummenigge says Kompany will soon coach Bayern

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Bayern Munich club supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge revealed on Tuesday that Vincent Kompany has been chosen as the Bavarian club’s new manager, but contract details are still being negotiated.

According to the German tabloid Bild and the British newspaper The Guardian, Kompany agrees in principle with Bayern, even if its team, Burnley, is relegated from the Premier League.

Rummenigge told Sky Italia that only a few small details need to be sorted out before Kompany joins Munich.

“Our sporting director has chosen Kompany, it’s not official yet, there are still the final details to be defined,” Rummenigge told Sky, quoted by AFP.

Rummenigge also said that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola helped them make this decision.

“He (Guardiola) really helped us. He made it as captain at City and also followed him when he was at Burnley,” Rummenigge said.

Bayern agreed to part ways with coach Thomas Tuchel in February after failing to compete with Bayer Leverkusen in the title race.

Kompany is no stranger to the German league having played in Hamburg before being signed by Manchester City.

He then managed Burnley in July 2022 and led the club’s promotion to the Premier League’s top division as champions of the second division that season.

Kompany is the latest candidate in Bayern’s long list of potential coaches. Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann and Ralf Rangnick rejected Bayern’s offers.
