Suning drama at Inter, Observer: ET manages the club for the long term

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Sports observer Fritz Simanjuntak has responded to the bad news hitting Italian League club Inter Milan who will change ownership of the club after being released by the current owner, Suning Group.

“It’s sad to learn this. Because Inter is very close to our club because this club was once owned by Erick Thohir, who is now general president of PSSI,” Fritz Simanjuntak told reporters on Monday.

The club nicknamed I Nerazzurri will change ownership after winning its 20th scudetto in the 2023/2024 season.

The current owner, Suning Group, has failed to pay off its debts and still has a €395 million loan to Oaktree Capital due on May 20. In detail, 275 million euros are the principal debt and the rest are interest for three years.

“I tried to compare it to the Erick Thohir era, when it took some time to bring the club from a state of loss to a high value. I know, this happened because even though Erick was quite conservative in management, he was able to provide stability to the future of the club, including from a financial point of view”, said Fritz Simanjuntak.

“The key is stability and, finally, according to the promises made to other investors, Erick Thohir managed to bring Inter promotion to the Champions League,” Fritz said.

Steven Zhang, owner of Inter, tried to ask for loans from various parties to pay off the debt owed. On the one hand, Zhang is now under pressure because he has to invest the club’s income to keep the Inter squad competitive next season.
