Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Australian Embassy on Saturday commemorated the 10th anniversary of the New Colombo Plan (NCP), which connects Australian students with the Indo-Pacific region.
In a written statement received in Jakarta, the Australian Embassy celebrated this historic day with NCP students, universities, business people and other partners in Yogyakarta.
Since its founding in 2014, New Colombo Plan has provided Australian students with the opportunity to undertake study abroad and internship programs, building relationships and networks in the region.
Indonesia continues to be one of the most popular destinations for NCP students, with over 12,000 students studying and interning across the archipelago.
Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Penny Williams PSM said people-to-people relationships are at the heart of Australia-Indonesia relations.
Indonesia has been the top choice for New Colombo Plan Australia students for the past ten years.
“They come here to study or gain work experience and leave with deep friendships and a new understanding of one of our closest neighbors,” Williams said.
The NCP program has provided more than 75,000 scholarships and mobility assistance to Australian university students across the region.
The program aims to be transformative, deepening Australian relationships, both at an individual level and through expanding university, corporate and institutional links.
