The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Next-Gen New Video Highlights Improvements; New Ray Tracing Mods Released

A new The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Next-Gen edition comparison video has been released, showing the improvements that the mod will include.

Those into modding will, of course, know the HD Reworked Project from modder ‘Halk Hogan’. The modder is known for his graphical overhaul packages for both the original The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. As covered earlier, the modder is now working on a version for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3, and a freshly released video highlights the improved textures in Kaer Trolde Village. We’ve included the comparison video below. As can be seen in this video, texture details have been greatly improved, especially while looking at the stones and wood grain.

“It’s time for first new preview of W3 HDRP NextGen Edition in this year”, the modder writes. “Today’s preview focuses on the largely reworked village of Kaer Trolde on Skellige. You may see a lot of progress I have made over the last weeks/months, including even better quality that I managed to achieve. In addition to the new assets quality, my efforts also include making the entire game visuals more consistent and realistic.”

More previews of Hogan’s HD Reworked project for the next-gen version of The Witcher 3 are coming in the near future alongside details about a release date. Those interested can download the first version of the mod here.

In other The Witcher 3 modding news – two new ray tracing mods have been released for CDPR’s hit title, which either improves ray tracing or add ray-traced mirrors to the game. As expected, the Ray Tracing Mirrors mod takes advantage of Ray-Tracing to enable reflections on mirrors in the game. As the modder mentions, the reflections aren’t perfect, but this is due to the implementation within the game.

The other mod is a mod from ‘ScoutBr0’, that improves reflections and shadows. When using this mod, shadows and ray-traced reflections should more accurately reflect the environment. In addition, shadows are cast more accurately across the environment. As with most mods, especially when it comes to ray tracing ones, using this mod does come with a performance hit, and the modder notes a performance loss between 7 to 14fps in cities.

Those interested in giving this mod a try can download it from Nexusmods here.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and all of its expansions (‘Hearts of Stone’ and ‘Blood and Wine’) are available worldwide now for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Of course, these mods are only available for the PC version.
