Vietnam’s economic growth will reach 6.42% in the first half of 2024

Hanoi (ANTARA) – Vietnam’s economy grew by 6.42% in the first six months of 2024, the General Statistics Office (GSO) said at a press conference in Hanoi on Saturday.

According to GSO, this result is slightly lower than the figure of 6.58% in the same period of 2022 in the period 2020-2024.

Of the total economic growth of added value, the agro-forestry-fishery, industrial construction and services sectors grew by 3.38%; 7.51%; and 6.64%, each contributing 5.96%; 44.28%; and 49.76%.

GSO also highlighted that in the services sector, exports increased, in line with the global recovery in consumer demand, which had a positive impact on the country’s economic growth.

As for the economic structure in the first half of the year, agro-forestry contributed 11.55%, while construction and the service sector contributed 36.44% and 43.35% respectively.

In terms of gross domestic product (GDP) utilization during that period, final consumption and accumulated assets increased by 5.78% and 6.72% year-on-year, contributing 64.26% and 35.15% to overall economic growth, respectively.

Exports and imports of goods and services increased by 16.89% and 16.95% respectively, with a contribution to the trade balance of 0.59%.

In the second quarter, the country’s economic growth reached 6.93%, slightly lower than the 7.99% recorded in the second quarter of 2022 in the period 2020-2024.

Speaking at the event, GSO Director General Nguyen Thi Huong said Vietnam’s socioeconomic situation in the second quarter achieved positive results amid global economic uncertainty.

Government management policies, led by the Prime Minister and various ministries and regions, have gradually proven effective, ensuring the smooth functioning of supply chains and distribution of goods and services.

Thus, reducing interest rates on loans, stabilizing the foreign exchange market, encouraging public investment and implementing credit packages to support various sectors.
